Making it Personal
Welcome to “How Can I #StandWithSeniors?,” a blog series giving you tips on how you can help amplify the We Stand With Seniors… Will You? nonpartisan educational campaign messaging, using our campaign toolkit.
Now that we’ve discussed how you can use social media to spread the word, let’s dive into why We Stand With Seniors… Will You? started and how your personal stories can impact change.
Why We #StandWithSeniors
California seniors face high rates of poverty and lack adequate healthcare, as well as other accommodations necessary for aging safely and independently. If California’s lawmakers and Governor Gavin Newsom do not act now, the crisis will only get worse, especially when considering our senior population will nearly double in the next 12 years.
That’s why West Health and The SCAN Foundation, two nonprofits devoted to improving health outcomes for seniors in California, launched the nonpartisan, public awareness and education campaign We Stand With Seniors… Will You? to raise awareness of these issues and educate state leaders about the need for a statewide, Master Plan for Aging.
Why We Need Your Voice
Storytelling has the power to spark emotion and relate a firsthand experience to a larger issue. By sharing why YOU #StandWithSeniors, policymakers and Governor Newsom can better understand the “who, what and why” behind this campaign.
With you in our corner, We Stand With Seniors can ensure California implements a Master Plan for Aging so our older adults, families and caregivers receive the health and supportive services they need and deserve.
Here are a couple tips, found within our campaign toolkit, to help you share your story –
- Email your story to info@WeStandWithSeniors.org. We will work with you to share your story in whatever way you feel comfortable to raise awareness and influence change.
- Use social media, phone calls or attend town halls to share your story with your legislator(s) and Governor Newsom. Always remember, personal connections to an issue are what people remember.
- Sign up to #StandWithSeniors at WeStandWithSeniors.org. By joining the campaign, you can stay up-to-date on what the campaign is accomplishing and how your stories help influence needed change!
